Grow A Colony Combat Colony Build

Push bugs, boss-scale insects, and rival colonies with Majors and Drones—without starving Workers.

Combat Build

The combat build is for colonies ready to clear bug zones, farm S-tier insects from bugs and bosses, and fight rival queens in twelve-player colony PvP war. It sits on top of the early game build food engine—combat without Scavenge Workers is a countdown to zero ants. [SKILLS] Grow A Colony by sebcaddy1 rewards Attack-mode Majors and Drones, but only if hatch queues keep replacing losses.

Use egg priority and the colony checklist every session.

Combat build identity

PillarCombat choice
EggsMajors and Drones after Worker floor
ModesAttack on combat units; Scavenge on economy floor
SkillsCombat A/S after minimum food S-tier
MapForward bunkers plus protected Scavenge lanes
Win conditionMap control + war wins, not nest prettiness

Minimum economy floor (non-negotiable)

Before adding combat eggs beyond maintenance:

  • 40% of living ants remain Workers on Scavenge (adjust down to 35% only during short raids).
  • Food buffer equals one full reinforcement cycle (however many Majors you can hatch without hitting zero).
  • S-tier food skill from skills tier list is active.

Drop below the floor and pause combat hatching—run economy build recovery for one session.

Egg ratios (combat steady state)

Template after graduating early game:

UnitTarget shareHatch priority
Workers35–45%Queue 2 Workers per 3 combat eggs
Majors40–50%Primary Attack stack
Drones10–20%After 10+ Majors; burst for elites

See eggs and ants guide for queue timing. Ant roles explains why Drones stay B-tier until Majors pad the front line.

Troop mode setup

Default map split:

  • Scavenge Workers on rear or side lanes with short paths to storage.
  • Attack Majors on forward patrol between nest and farm routes.
  • Attack Drones attached to Major clumps for wasp/mantis/beetle elites—not solo deep map.
  • Follow Majors (10–15% of Majors) peel for queen during digs or war flanks.

Never set all Majors to Attack while Workers Scavenge unguarded lanes—spider and rival picks define this build’s losses.

Skill tree path

From skills tier list for combat:

  1. Minimum food S-tier (one node).
  2. Major damage or swarm size A-tier.
  3. Drone amplifiers when Drones ≥4.
  4. War or raid branches → promote B to S before declaring war.
  5. Worker Scavenge defense A-tier if bugs snipe gatherers.

Full branch names: skill tree guide.

Bug farming rotation

Use bugs and bosses tiers as a schedule:

  1. Clear S-tier blockers on Scavenge routes (beetles, termite lines).
  2. Farm A-tier wasp/mantis zones when Drones online.
  3. Schedule boss-scale spider/elite farms when food buffer is double normal.
  4. Skip C-tier detours unless war prep requires map vision.

Pull insects sideways—combat units move, Workers do not.

Colony war protocol

When rivals active per war and PvP guide:

Pre-war: double food buffer; queue Workers + Majors; spend pending skill points; scout with Follow Majors.

During war: Attack Majors + Drones focus rival Workers first; keep Scavenge lane alive at all costs.

Post-war: immediate Worker hatch until 45% share; repair dig choke; log losses in checklist for next ratio tweak.

Combat build wins wars that economy rebuilds after—if post-war food stays negative, your ratios were too aggressive.

Nest layout for combat

  • Choke tunnel widened only enough for twin Major columns.
  • Forward chamber as rally point—Drones spawn behind Majors.
  • Scavenge branch separate from raid exit so retreating Majors do not trample Worker paths.
  • Storage depth behind choke so rivals must fight through Attack stack.

Common combat build failures

MistakeFix
80% Attack antsRe-hatch Workers until floor restored
Drones before MajorsPause Drones; batch 6 Majors
Chasing C-tier bugs during warPause farms; defend Scavenge
Zero skill food pickRespec if game allows; else grind economy session

Hybrid note

Most “combat mains” run 60% combat build / 40% economy—enough Workers to never cancel hatch. Promote to pure combat only for scheduled war nights.

Combat is a food subscription service. Pay Workers first, then Majors earn the map.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Grow A Colony on Roblox.

What is the ideal Major to Drone ratio?

Roughly 3:1 Majors to Drones once combat steady state is reached. Add Drones when Majors can hold a lane alone for thirty seconds without reinforcements.

Can I run combat build on a peaceful server?

Yes—use it for bug and boss farming. Skip war skill promotions until rivals appear; invest extra points in economy defense for Worker Scavenge.

How does combat build interact with 5.2 skills?

5.2 combat branches multiply Major and Drone Attack value. You still need at least one economy S-tier pick or fights drain food too fast.

Should I declare war while farming bugs?

Only if food buffer is doubled and replacement eggs are queued. Bug farms and war both spend Majors—doing both simultaneously without buffer is how colonies wipe.
